Ashtanga Yoga  = 8 limbs of the path of self-transcendence

The 8 limbs:

  • yama =  concerning Moral discipline:

nonharming (ahimsa)                 truthfulness (satya)                   nonstealing (asteya)

integrity(brachmacarya)            greedlessness (aparigraha)

  • Niyama = concerning the inner life

Purity (shauca)                              contentment (samtosha)            austerity (tapas)

study (svadhyana)                        dedication (pranidhana)

  • Asana= Posture
  • Pranayama = Breath control
  • Pratyahara = Sense withdrawal
  • Dharana = concentration
  • Dhyana = Meditation
  •  Samadhi = Ecstasy
